Professional Journey
Bawanandan began his professional career as a manager at Connonbry Management in London, where he gained invaluable experience in operational management and leadership. After returning to Sri Lanka, he held several high-level government positions, contributing his expertise to national projects and policy development.
In 2019, he ventured into the sea cucumber farming industry, starting with just 3 acres. Under his visionary leadership, the business has rapidly expanded and is now on track to become South Asia’s largest sea cucumber stockholder.
Expertise in Sea Cucumber Aquaculture
Bawanandan has gained a high level of knowledge in sea cucumber aquaculture by working closely with local farmers and key Sri Lankan organizations such as the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) and the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA). He has further enhanced his expertise through collaborations with Western Australia University, Australian sea cucumber farms, and various hatcheries and farms in Indonesia and Thailand.
Bawanandan is the only businessman in Sri Lanka to introduce and lead pond-based sea cucumber farming through technical collaboration and practical experiments conducted in South Bar, Mannar. His pioneering efforts have paved the way for a more sustainable and scalable model of sea cucumber farming in the region.
